Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
The main campus of UAB is situated in Bellaterra (Cerdanyola del Vallès), approx. 20 km from Barcelona between Sabadell and Sant Cugat del Vallés. The university centre forms its own small city with parks, recreational facilities and shops (laundry, bakery, supermarket, etc.). The train connection between Barcelona, Sabadell, etc works well. Students and staff members have also the opportunity to rent a room in this university village, which consists of 640 flats of different sizes with a capacity for 1.800 people. At present, more than 50.000 people are studying at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. There is a big variety of courses reaching from Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Experimental Sciences to Engineering. The students also have the opportunity to gain some practical experience during their courses in order to be well prepared for their working life. Spanish (Castellano) is also classified as official language
at the university, i.e. the students are allowed to write projects and
exams in Catalan and/or Castilian. However, the majority of the lectures
(60-70%) are held in Catalan and almost every lecturer and student is
able to speak and understand this language. Therefore it is recommended
to all exchange students to attend a Catalan language course. “UAB
Idiomes” offers some basic courses. You can find more detailed information
