The University of Pompeu Fabra is a state-run elite university and was founded in 1990. The requirement for admission, however, is the same as in every other university in Catalonia. The university is denominated after Pompeu Fabra, who defined the basic principles of modern Catalan. It is situated in the centre of Barcelona and it stretches from the Ramblas to the Olympic Village. At present 7.000 people are studying at the various faculties of the university.

The academic year is divided into trimesters, starts in the end of September and lasts until the end of June. The respective trimesters are composed of 10 weeks of lectures, 2 weeks of exercises and holidays (Christmas, Easter, summer holidays)

If you want to study at Pompeu Fabra, but your university does not have a partnership with this university, you have to include the following documents in your application.

• Confirmation from your university to prove that you are an exchange student
  
• 2 passport pictures
  
• copy of your identity card or passport
  
• copy of valid health insurance coverage for Barcelona
  
• completed application à to be sent via Internet

As soon as you are accepted as exchange student at Pompeu Fabra, you have to register until May 30 for the first trimester and until October 30 for the second and third trimesters. Besides, you have to pay a fee if your university doesn´t have a partnership with Pompeu Fabra. For a credit at UPF you have to pay 60 € as well as 50 € administration fee.
